Dock levelers are designed to bridge the gap between a truck and the dock or warehouse floor. Not all trucks are the same height, and the height of the trailer floor within a truck can vary. Dock levelers and lifts are generally permanent fixtures at each door of a dock.
Dock levelers have a simple metal plate, called a lip, that is raised from a stowed position and then lowered onto the back of the truck. The lip can be hinged or telescopic. They can be operated either manually, pull chain, or hydraulically, with a piston to lift the plate and another one to move the lip.
Docks also have bumpers to protect the building and trucks from damage when trucks are backing in loads, and pads to seal around the truck for inclement weather and safety.
Some of the things that commonly can fail on a dock lever range from a broken spring, hydraulic piston, to pull chains. Many levelers may just need a simple adjustment when they get stuck, or will not operate correctly.
Exterior parts of the dock, such as bumpers and pads can be damaged by weather and trucks which may call for them to be replaced for safety.
When any part of the dock fails, safety is a high priority. Give us a call and we will get you running safely and back on track.
