Garage Door Safety

Did you know that a garage door is typically the largest and heaviest moving object in most homes? Unsafe doors can cause serious injury if not maintained properly. Here are some general safety guidelines:

1. Keep Your Door Properly Maintained

Keeping your door maintained properly is a great way to keep it safe. Have one of our trained service technicians check your door once a year.

2. Keep the Area Around Your Garage Door Clear

Do not allow children or pets to play on or around garage doors especially while in motion.  Keep area under and around the door clear of debris to keep it operating safely.

3. Stay Clear of a Moving Door

Stay clear of the garage door while its in motion. Keep fingers and loose clothing away from sections and moving parts to avoid injury.  Wait for it to come to a complete stop.

4. Never Repair Springs or Cables on Your Own

Never attempt to repair garage door springs or cables on your own. These components are under extreme tension and can cause serious injury. Let one of our trained service technicians handle these jobs.

5. Make Sure Your Door Meets Minnesota Safety Standards

Garage door openers that do not have photo eyes no longer meet the current Minnesota safety standards and should be replaced. Photo eyes are an important safety feature sold on all new garage door openers. If you do have photo eyes make sure they are working and mounted properly.
